# Competency Level Descriptions

Competency level descriptions are necessary so that the assessment participants have a clear vision of what actions and behavior are expected for each level of every job role competency. The descriptions for the same level of a competency may vary across job roles which allows you to tailor them to your needs.

Follow these steps to set up competency level descriptions:

1. Go to **Settings > Settings and Configuration > Performance**.
2. Click **Competencies** in the left panel and click **Edit** next to the **Competency Level Descriptions** setting name on the **Advanced** tab.![](https://cdn.document360.io/c315c68d-2799-4fcc-9a39-084315b58f14/Images/Documentation/img451(3).png)
3. The **Competency Level Descriptions** list will open with descriptions grouped by competency and then by the job role. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c315c68d-2799-4fcc-9a39-084315b58f14/Images/Documentation/img452(5).png)

5. Select the competency to describe in the **Competency** field.
6. Select the competency level that you plan to describe from the drop-down list in the **Competency Level** field.
7. Enter the description for the competency level into the **Description** field.
8. Select the job role this competency level description applies to from the drop-down list in the **Job Role** field.

These descriptions will be available in the competency framework when you open a competency.
