# Define Career Paths

The career paths are set up by the HR team for individual job roles. They can be defined when creating the job roles or from the **Succession** module.

Follow these steps to establish career paths:

1. Go to **Performance** > **Succession** > **Career Paths**. The **Job Roles** page will open listing all the job roles available in the system. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c315c68d-2799-4fcc-9a39-084315b58f14/Images/Documentation/img240(2).png)
2. To create a new role, click **new item**. To define the path for an existing role, click its role title and then **Edit Item**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c315c68d-2799-4fcc-9a39-084315b58f14/Images/Documentation/img241(1).png)
3. Use the **Add** button in the **Promotion Path** field to select the job roles the current role can be promoted to.
4. Use the **Add** button in the **Rotation Path** field to select the job roles for potential rotation.
5. Click **Save**.
